Why I Blog

I started this blog in May last year for many different reasons. As time has gone on though those reasons and motivations behind it have changed. I think I first started reading blogs when I was at university and I always enjoyed the little insights they gave into other people's lives and the beautiful photos that many people shared. Blogs are pretty cool things when you think about it. You get a peek in the window of people living all over the world that you might not otherwise meet or engage with. They can open you up to completely new things, and sometimes you find out about people's careers that you never even knew existed. I'd always thought about starting a blog for years before I finally actually sat down and just did it. I kept putting it off for various reasons, I didn't think I had enough to say or there were uni essays to write or or or...

Last year though I was working in a job that I enjoyed and with really great people but it wasn't quite what I wanted to do so I set about expanding my skills and CV, so I started blogging. I wanted to improve my digital skills, my photography and writing, but that wasn't my only motivation for Ameldi, it was just the final push that I really needed to actually just sit down and do it. So here are my main motivations to carry on with blogging.

To Remember

Recently I had a look back at some of my early posts and it was so fun to see what I was up to this time last year and how different things are and what in life has remained the same. This is probably the biggest reason why I blog as it helps me remember all those little things that I might otherwise have forgotten. I also get to share all the cat pictures that I want, and who doesn't love a good cat picture?

To Connect With Others

One of the things I wasn't expecting to come from blogging was that it allows me to share and connect with likeminded people which is really fun. I don't think I quite fit with the usual blogging crowd, I don't write about beauty or fashion and I don't take fantastic photos, but I think I've found my groove and 'place'. I enjoy reading about the little things in other people's lives so I hope that other people find something on Ameldi that they can connect with too.

To Make the Most of Things

I'm generally a glass half full kind of person but I think starting Ameldi has really helped me to view more things in a positive light. The other really great thing about blogging is that I think it has helped me to value all those things in life that we take for granted. It helps me to appreciate all those moments that might otherwise pass me by relatively unnoticed, and I think that's pretty great.

To Stay Inspired and Try New Things

I go through waves of inspiration of what to write and share here, especially those weeks when I literally do nothing but work, netflix and chores haha! But it's always here as a creative outlet for me to share my story and there are always endless blogs to scroll through for inspiration. There are some very talented people out there who take amazing photos with beautiful writing, so it's always great inspiration to push myself to try new things and pick up my camera more often.

The other really big reason is pretty simple, it's because I enjoy it. I enjoy blogging for all of the reasons above. I enjoy planning and thinking about things to share here, I have fun taking photos and trying to improve my knowledge of how it all works. When I'm lacking in motivation or inspiration it's always good to remind myself why I do this and to remember that I do it because it's fun.
