Brunch: The Sussex Produce Company
Over the last few months my parents have told me a number of times about The Sussex Produce Company and how tasty their breakfasts are, especially the pancakes. So, naturally, when I went home last weekend for a visit I just knew I had to try it out. Luckily one of the first things mum suggested when I arrived home on Friday was brunch, yay! We ended up heading to Steyning on a rather rainy Sunday morning with our fingers crossed we could get a table at The Sussex Produce Company. Fortunately we were in luck and were able to get seated despite them being pretty busy. We very promptly ordered mochas, pancakes and a full english breakfast for us to share.
The mochas arrived along with a lovely buttery shortbread biscuit, very tasty and a lovely little addition to tide us over until the pancakes arrived! The mocha was really good with just the right coffee to chocolate ratio.
The pancakes were lovely soft and fluffy and came with maple syrup and blueberry compote which nicely complemented the pancakes (well pancakes and blueberries do pretty much go hand in hand!) The pancakes were quite thin but larger than an american pancake and you got two of them!
The cooked breakfast came with bacon, sausage, fried potatoes, tomatoes, eggs, sourdough bread and a portobello mushroom. It was super tasty! The sausage was seasoned with herbs which gave it a lovely flavour and the tomatoes were cooked on the vine which was a nice touch. The bacon was a little dry on the edge where it had been grilled and the eggs were slightly crispy but had lovely runny yolks for dipping the potatoes in.As a treat for missing out on the weekend and the yummy food I got Robert a raspberry swirl brownie although he's been trying to cut down on his sugar intake so I ended up having to eat it instead. Yum. I also bought myself some flowers to brighten up our living room.
Brunch was super tasty and I would definitely recommend The Sussex Produce Company. I'm already looking forward to my next trip home for another breakfast visit! The Sussex Produce Company is not just a cafe but a shop too where they sell lots of local goodies including fruits, veg, meats and treats. They try to support local farmers and producers and have even been visited by Mary Berry, now I can't think of a better person to give their seal of approval! You can find The Sussex Produce Company on Steyning High Street and they're open most days from 8am.
