A Day on Lake Como
A trip to Lake Como was the one thing I really wanted to do while we were away in Milan. The mountains, all the shades of blue, who could say no! So for our second to last day we headed to the train station. The train links from Milan were great and we were able to get a train to Varenna-Esino which took just under an hour and a half and the views from the train were spectacular! The train was nicely timed for us to walk down the hill and get straight on the ferry to Bellagio. The ferry trip was great for checking out all the houses around the lake and all the fancy boats. This was definitely our favourite day and it felt like a proper holiday for Robert rather than the work trip of the previous few days. When we got to Bellagio we wandered around the little streets taking a mental note of all the gelato places for later in the day. We had lunch at one of the many places looking out over the lake. The food wasn't great but it was lovely sitting out on the terrace watching all the boats on the lake. After lunch we headed back up the hill to check out the shops and get some gelato. We got the ferry back to Varenna which we decided to explore and found a bar with a very green terrace and views of the mountains. We chilled out and Robert got his first espresso of the trip while groups around us chatted away in Italian and German. Finally we decided to head back to Milan although we messed up with train times which meant we hung out at the station for a little longer than originally anticipated!
Lake Como was so beautiful and I really want to make it back there but next time for longer than a day, and maybe look into renting a boat for a couple of hours. I think mum is maybe angling for a trip there too ;)
